Terry has recently retired after a career in the news media. He began in print and moved into broadcasting.
 
He is a former reporter and chief of staff of ABC News. He was the chief producer of news for ABC radio in Melbourne for almost 20 years. He also tutored in journalism at Monash university.
 
Terry is also a qualified secondary school media studies and history/geography teacher. His other interests include philosophy, economics and politics.
 
He also worked in the telecommunications industry.
 
Terry is a member of the Melbourne City U3A committee, and is involved in Moonee Valley U3A activities and volunteer work with his local library.
 
He also enjoys tennis, golf and travel.
